Description
Norbert has stepped straight out of the storybook! This hand-carved wooden gnome brings Daniela Drescher’s beloved winter character to life — the kind-hearted forest gnome who looks after his animal friends all through the cold months.
There’s something lovely about reading a story and then holding one of its characters in your hand. Children who know Norbert from the book get to carry on his adventures themselves: tending to animals in the snow, wandering the winter woods, and making up whatever happens next.
He’s carved and painted by hand in Ostheimer’s traditional style, which means soft brushed colour with the wood grain showing through, and the gentle, understated expression their figures are known for.
Why we love the Ostheimer Norbert the Winter Gnome:
- A Character From the Story: Daniela Drescher’s Norbert, ready to continue his woodland adventures off the page.
- Hand Carved and Painted: Made in Ostheimer’s traditional style, so every figure carries its own small variations.
- Winter Woodland Play: Lovely alongside woodland animals, wooden trees, and a white play silk for snow.
- A Keepsake for the Season: Solid wood that comes out each winter and holds up to years of handling.
Who is Norbert the Winter Gnome?
He’s the character at the heart of Daniela Drescher’s winter storybook — a gentle forest gnome who cares for the animals living in the woods through the coldest part of the year. Her illustrated stories are much loved in Waldorf homes for their quiet, nature-centred feeling.
Why pair a wooden figure with a storybook?
Because it keeps the story going after the last page. Holding a character and moving them through their own invented adventures deepens how a child connects with a book — they retell it, change the ending, and carry it into their own play, which builds comprehension and language far better than simply hearing it again.
A gentle gnome, a snowy wood, and a story that carries on in your child’s hands!
