Description
A little bird to perch wherever your child decides! This hand-carved wooden blue tit is small enough to tuck into a pocket, balance on a branch, or settle onto a nature table alongside pinecones and conkers.
Birds are lovely small world pieces because they go everywhere — up in the trees of a wooden forest, down in a play-silk meadow, visiting a dollhouse windowsill, or flying from one hand to the other across the living room. A single figure can carry a whole afternoon of quiet storytelling.
Carved and painted by hand in Ostheimer’s traditional style, so each one has its own small variations and the wood grain shows through the colour.
Why we love the Ostheimer Blue Tit:
- Small Enough to Travel: A pocket-sized figure that comes along to the park, the car, or grandma’s kitchen table.
- Hand Carved and Painted: Made in Ostheimer’s traditional style, with gentle variations that make each bird its own.
- Lovely on a Nature Table: Settles in beautifully among seasonal finds, wooden trees, and woodland animals.
- Solid Wood, Built to Last: Sturdy enough for daily handling and to be passed along later.
What is a blue tit?
A small, acrobatic garden songbird with a blue cap and a bright yellow breast, common across the UK and Europe. They’re famous for hanging upside down from feeders and nesting happily in garden boxes. In Canada, their closest familiar cousin is the chickadee — so children here often recognise the shape and size straight away.
Why are realistic animal figures good for play?
Because children connect them to the real thing. A wooden bird that resembles an actual species gives a child a reason to look outside and spot one, and that back-and-forth between play and the real world is how early nature knowledge takes root — far more memorably than a picture in a book.
One small bird, and a whole garden to fly through!
