When were Groovy Girls® popular?
Manhattan Toy launched Groovy Girls® in 1998 as a soft, funky alternative to the fashion dolls of the day. They hit their peak through the early-to-mid 2000s, reaching Target shelves in 2005 and selling more than eight million dolls, before the original line was discontinued in 2019. They returned in 2026 for a whole new generation.
How many Groovy Girls® dolls are there?
The new collection launched with five dolls, each with her own personality and style — Poppy the scholar, Rose the athlete, Daisy the gardener, Iris the dancer, and one more friend to meet. The original line ran far larger, growing to over a thousand dolls, outfits, and accessories across two decades.

• The base skin and body structure are made from soft, smooth polyester fabrics
• Hair: The signature stringy or braided hairstyles are crafted from thick yarn or soft cords.
• All facial features (eyes, nose, mouth) and fingers are embroidered with thread, completely eliminating plastic button eyes that present choking hazards.
• The latest revival dolls by Manhattan Toy feature small magnets sewn inside the plush hands so the dolls can hold hands or attach to magnetic accessories. -
