Description
Let it snow! Little wooden snowflakes in three shades, ready to drift across a winter scene, settle on a play-silk field, or gather into flurries around a wooden village.
The shape is what sets these apart from the rest of the mandala family. Six points radiating from a centre is already a tiny mandala, so a single snowflake makes a natural middle for a larger design — or a whole ring of them radiating outward. The three shades give children something to sort and sequence with, building patterns that shift gradually from one tone to the next.
Each piece is hand-dyed rather than painted, so the colour soaks into the wood and the grain shows through. Slight variation between pieces is what handmade looks like.
Why we love the Grapat Wood Mandala Snowflakes:
- A Shape Made for Mandalas: Six radiating points that work beautifully as the centrepiece of a larger design.
- Three Shades to Sequence: Sorting and grading by tone comes naturally, building early pattern skills through play.
- Winter Scenes and Beyond: Snowy small worlds in December, and pure pattern play the rest of the year.
- Hand-Dyed Wood, Age 3+: Water-based dyes that soak into the grain, so the colour won't chip or fade.
How do you build a mandala with wooden pieces?
Start from the centre and work outward in rings, repeating a pattern as you go — that's really all there is to it. Snowflakes work well at the middle because of their radiating shape, with coins, cones, or peaks forming the rings around them. Children discover the symmetry themselves rather than being taught it.
Is Grapat worth it?
Look at what it replaces. A set like this covers sorting, sequencing, pattern work, and small world detail, doing the job of several single-purpose toys. It's hand-dyed in a small Spanish workshop with non-toxic water-based dyes that soak into the wood, which is why it still looks lovely years later.
Snow on the way, one little flake at a time!

About the Brand
Grapat is a family-founded brand that emerged from the simple yet profound realization that children thrive on open-ended play. Established in the serene countryside after the founders observed their own children's imaginative play, Grapat has dedicated itself to creating wooden toys that encourage creativity, freedom, and interaction with the natural world. Their philosophy is deeply rooted in respect for childhood, believing in the power of simple, unstructured play to foster development and imagination.
Handcrafting each piece with care and attention to detail, Grapat uses sustainable materials sourced within the EU, emphasizing eco-friendliness and safety. The toys are brought to life with natural dyes and finished with vegetable-based waxes and oils, highlighting the wood's inherent beauty and ensuring each item is unique and safe for children. This commitment to quality and sustainability reflects Grapat's values of environmental stewardship and the promotion of a slower, more intentional way of life.
At the heart of Grapat's ethos is the belief that toys should serve as tools for play, not dictate it. By offering materials without instructions or imposed limitations, they invite children to create their own stories and games, nurturing their innate ability to innovate. Grapat stands as a testament to the belief that through play, children can explore the world, understand their place within it, and express their individuality freely and creatively. -
